2023-2024 School Year

Dear Greenacres Middle School Students and Parents/Guardians:

First and foremost, we are extremely excited to welcome our students back for another great school year at GMS!  Our staff has been working extremely hard to prepare the building for the arrival of students to ensure a quality start to the 2023-24 school year.  With that said, it is important that you have the pertinent information to prepare your child for success right away.  Please see the information below.

Transportation:  Busses will drop off on the east side of the building and parent drop-off will take place on the west side of the building. (Bus Routes and Map)

Student Schedules:  Student schedules will be available to view on PowerSchool on September 6th at 3 p.m. Also, first period rosters will be posted on the walls of our building and students will receive a paper copy of their entire schedule in their first period class on the first day of school.  (PowerSchool Instructions

Supply List:  Here is a link to each grade's supply list. (Supply List)

Athletics: Fall sports include cross country (6th, 7th, 8th), football (7th and 8th), and softball (7th and 8th).  September 5th is the first day of football, while September 6th is the first day of cross country and softball.  Please be sure to register for your child’s sport and make an online payment.  (Registration and Online Payment)

Bell Schedule:  Students may arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. on M, T, W, and F and no earlier than 8:45 a.m. on Th.  They will be released from school each day at 2:40 p.m.  (Bell Schedule)

Lockers:  All students will be assigned lockers within the first few days of school to house school and personal items.

PE/Health:  Students in PE classes will have an assigned locker in the PE locker room.  Also, students are required to purchase a PE uniform (t-shirt) that is $7.  PE t-shirts will be distributed to students in PE class when the school year begins.  It is not necessary to submit your child's t-shirt size.  Payment for the t-shirts can be made in the main office or online.  (Online Payment)

Lunch:  Unfortunately, lunch is not free to all students at GMS this year.  Students must fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Application to qualify.  Students will have the option to go outside with supervision during the last 15 minutes of their assigned lunch period.

Breakfast:  Unfortunately, breakfast is not free to all students at GMS this year.  Students must fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Application to qualify.  Students who choose to eat breakfast will go directly to the commons when they arrive at school, receive breakfast, and sit and eat at a table until class begins.  Students who do not choose to eat breakfast will remain supervised outside on the south side of the building until the bell rings to go to class at 8:05 a.m.  (Morning Breakfast Map)

Chromebooks:  This year students will have access to chromebooks housed in each classroom.  Chromebooks will not be checked out to each individual student to take home each day.

First Day of School Packet:  All students will receive a packet with several pieces of important information on the first day of school.  Please read through the contents of this packet and sign and return the documents that require parent/guardian signature and approval.

Advisory:  This year GMS is implementing a 25 minute advisory period on Thursdays.  Advisory will be used for intentional character development, community service projects, student of the month awards, strategies for student success, etc.

6th Grade Sneak Peek:  Sneak Peek is an opportunity for all incoming 6th grade students to get acquainted with their new school.  During this event they will meet staff, 8th grade mentor students and learn about our programs and the layout of our building.  This will take place from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30th at Greenacres Middle School.  Parents will drop their student off and then pick them up at the conclusion of the event.  Also, any 7th/8th grade students that are new to GMS this year can come tour our building on 8/30 at 12 p.m.

We are looking forward to working alongside our students, staff, and community to make this year excellent.  Please feel free to contact the main office with any questions you may have.   Here’s to an exciting 2023-2024 school year!

Sincerely,

Quinn LeSage
